Some Quilty WIP's!

It has been a long while, I know....
I had a very busy summer...took me a while to recover, then I had a problem with trigger finger and couldn't sew well as that required me to pin things together which my finger did not want to do! I had surgery to fix the problem in October and am now back at it with photos to share!!

First up, I am in the home stretch at finishing up a quilt I am making for my Dad and step-mom....I designed the pattern myself and struggled through. I didn't realize there were flying geese in there until I had already had all my fabric cut..needless to say..if you have experience with triangles..which I didn't...the going was hard and there was a lot of seam ripping going on! I almost quit several times!

It is now sandwhiched and I have begun stitching in the ditch. This is my second quilt...

My second grandchild, another boy, is due on Feb 25th! So I had to make him a quilt!
I am still hand stiching the binding on this...very close to being completed!

That is all I have, hoping to get more done in 2016!

On the bed with a peek at the back! :)

Very happy with how this turned out. I have another quilt started for my Dad who insisted he had to have one. I designed the next one myself..will show when I have more comleted. Thanks for visiting!

Finished the top and started another!

Hi Everyone!!

I finshed the top to the Layer Cake Sampler :) Waiting on my Mom to come over and show me how to sandwhich this huge thing! What do you think?

This one is before I put the border on.

It then became too big for my living room floor so here is the border on it while folded.

Here is the new one..a Disappearing 9 Patch. I am using scrap material my Mom gave me...

I have 14 blocks done so far.

Becoming fast addicted to this hobby!!

One more column to go...

Hello!
Whew! We had quite the snow storm last night! It took my husband 3 hours to get home from 23 miles away (Syracuse)! Here is a pic of what was outside my window at about 4:30 pm:

This was taken with my flash but it doesn't look as bad as it looked through my eyes without the camera. Anyway..glad he finally made it home. :)

I worked more on my Layer Cake Sampler quilt :) I only have one column left to add and a border around for the top of the quilt. What do you think?

Thank you for stopping in and I hope the sun is shining where ever you are!

So close, it is getting scary!

So..I have the 4 columns sewn. The column on the left looks a little longer as it is the only one ironed when I took this picture. I have to add the sashing and posts now in between the columns and I am scared...so afraid it won't match up....I have been putting it off for several days actually.

So...wish me luck....or skill..yes, wish me skill. :)

2 done, 2 to go!

I am so close now!! Only 2 blocks left to make, then on to sashing and posts...For a first time quilter..I was wondering why I didn't start with something smaller like a table runner...but like I said to my husband.."Go Big or Go Home!" He laughed and said "That's right!" haha

So far, so good...

Have a wonderful weekend!

My First Jelly Roll Quilt

Hello!
So, I ran out of yellow fabric for my Layer Cake Sampler and decided to work with the two jelly rolls I had purchased while I waited to go to the fabric store again to get my yellow.

I am not sure of the brand name of these rolls, the front of the tag says Batik Jelly, while the back says Batik Jelly Roll Coral Red. They were on sale, I grabbed them as I had been seeing quilts made with jelly rolls on Pinterest and knew I wanted to try!

I just did my own thing with these which I am sure is a common layout.
This pic is before I squared them to 6x6 inches

This is after squaring them all and sewing the strips together.

Then that evening, after shopping for my yellow fabric and picking up a few more yards to start my stash..I sewed the strips together. This is what I have so far!  It is a lap/couch size...I am going to make it a little bigger with some borders. Still coming up with a plan for that!

I took this pic before the one above and could not get these "helpers"
to help by staying off..they had to check it out!

Here are the two new fabrics I picked up

Thanks for stopping in to check out my progress! I'm learning!

Sew...I am new to this quilting thing....

Hi everyone, welcome to my first blog post on my new blog! The Title of this blog says it all! I CAN sew a straight line.

I have sewn in the past, pillow cases, decorative pillows..and this past November/December, I sewed an apron for my daughter-in -law...turned out pretty good!
I also made her a head scarf to go with it...

What I am really getting into though is quilting...I want to state here and please keep it in mind, I have no idea what I am doing..I am learning as I go and Youtube is a darn good teacher!

So, here is a link of what I am working on right now, The Layer Cake Sampler at Material Girl. A SAL from a couple of years ago...
